PVD Coating

PVD hard coatings are extremely thin (a few micrometers) protective films that can improve the following surface properties of the substrate materials:

Applying a few microns of coating on cutting tools can increase cutting speed, significantly improve production efficiency, and extend the service life of the substrate material.

DLC coating

DLC (Diamond-like Carbon) is a metastable diamond-like amorphous carbon coating, containing a large amount of sp2 and sp3 bonds. The high sp3 bond content can bring high coating hardness, high stability, high oxidation resistance, low residual stress and low thermal conductivity.

Loading

Load the sample system into the coating chamber.

Vacuum pumping

When depositing PVD coatings, high vacuum is required. Huasheng's coating system proceeds in two steps: First, the mechanical pump reduces the vacuum chamber pressure from 1000mbar to 10-1mbar; Then, the turbo molecular pump generates a high vacuum of about 1X10-6m bar.

Heating

Heat the chamber to around 500℃,  which is the conventional process temperature.

Plasma etching

Huasheng's coating system uses three different etching process technologies: HUASHENG® (lateral glow discharge); Argon plasma etching, glow discharge; Metal ion etching (Ti+, Cr +).

PVD Coating Technology

The Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) technique refers to the process of vaporizing the surface of a material source (solid or liquid) into gaseous atoms or molecules, or partially ionizing into ions, using physical methods under vacuum conditions, and depositing a thin film with certain special functions on the substrate surface through a low-pressure gas (or plasma) process. PVD is one of the main surface treatment technologies.

PECVD Coating Technology

Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition (PECVD) is a process that deposits extremely smooth, adherent amorphous diamond hard alloy coatings in a highly vacuum environment. Compared to PVD processes, PECVD processes use deep plating power supplies, do not require cathode targets, and the workpiece does not need to rotate in the furnace chamber. This process is a clean, pollution-free, reliable, and multifunctional coating process.

Notice BEFORE Coating

Huasheng coating process needs high temperature and high vacuun enviornment, so does tools be coated. Please check followed annoucement to fulfill our PVD coating performance:

✔ Workpiece able to be coated

To provide perfect process for tools Huasheng needs some basic information about coating tools like substrate material, hardness and temper temperature. Here are materials can be coated:

1. Alloy steel, HSS and stainless steel

2. Cement carbide

3. Titanium alloy

4. Nickle alloy

For chisel steel it has to be tempered twice or more over 500 degree centigrade and keep its hardness and electrical conductivity. Because whole tools would be coated inside chamber in PVD process so make sure the whole tool can meet these requirements.

✔ Coating area

Please note coating area of a tool with an area for clamping, it is not likely to full coating cover a whole tool. If there is somewhere should not be coated, please annoce us in advance.

✔ Largest coating size

Huasheng coating has a largest area of no more than φ900*1000mm

✔ Limits on tool surface

1. Tools for coating cannot be: electroplated, nitriding, carburized, parkerising, oxidized, TD, CVD or other surface treatment

2. There should not be rust, corrosion, oil paint, glue on tool surface

3. Surface roughness: with reach requirement of using, workpiece surface should be as much as smooth, surface Ra<0.2μm is better; for special mirror plastic mold, etched die it depends on product standard

4. Assembling die or mosaic tool must be disassembled

5. Welding ool surface should be completely clean without oxidation layer or hole on top

✔ What customer should provide

✔ PVD coating limit

PVD coating can cover complex surface, but only can coat hole with pit-depth ratio no smaller than 1:1 and with coating thickness is thinner with depth.

✔ Recoating

Huasheng provides decoating service for customer (except some carbide tools)
